Choose Light

I was reading a post from Elizabeth Gilbert, a well known author and human rights advocate this morning, and she spoke about how darkness gives way to the light, how evil things are always followed by pure goodness from others or society, how without hard times, people remain ordinary and never discover their greatness.

I absolutely agree with her. But it raised the question within me:

Why do we wait for darkness before we appreciate the light within us? Why do we wait to be afraid of the dark before remembering to turn on the light? Do we therefore allow the darkness reign due to us not really knowing the light? My guess is yes.

If we truly understood our own light, the darkness couldn’t rise up.

It’s a challenging statement, but one worth considering.

What are we allowing to lay dormant within us that we could choose to let out? And could we do that now, and not wait until there’s no other option and we somehow have to?

That’s the start of my thinking around this. I will no doubt do some more; perhaps you may too.

There is no answer except the one we choose. Choose light.
